Like your memory foam pillow but feel that it’s not quite it? If so, then our review of the best Tempur-Pedic pillows might interest you!
Not everybody likes memory foam, but its ability to reduce pressure on your body is undeniable. Memory foam isn’t used in medicine and some other fields for nothing, after all!
Tempur-Pedic has been at the roots of memory foam technology. And today, it promises the best memory foam products you could find, including pillows!
Why Buy A Tempur-Pedic Pillow?
Why should you buy a Tempur-Pedic pillow? The reason is the proprietary TEMPUR memory foam that has a few solid benefits:
Great support: The special memory foam used by Tempur-Pedic – the TEMPUR – is firm enough to provide support to more demanding buyers.
Conformable: TEMPUR is designed to be highly conformable to the body shape and weight of the user. Conforming to your body, TEMPUR is claimed to minimize pressure points that interfere with sleep.
Durable: Tempur-Pedic claims that TEMPUR never loses its shape.
Comfortable for your partner as well: TEMPUR is claimed to dramatically reduce motion transfer, allowing your sleep partner to sleep undisturbed.
Tempur has been originally engaged in the development of cushioned memory foam seats for NASA. Among the goals of the program that has been active since the 60s was to protect astronauts during lift-off.
NASA released memory foam to the public in the early 1980s. However, it was not until the early 90s that the first memory foam mattresses were made available to the public.
In 1989, the Swedish company Fagerdala World Foams acquired the Tempur-Pedic technology from NASA. In 1991, Fagerdala introduced the first memory foam mattress to the world, the Tempur-Pedic Swedish Mattress.
In 1992, Fagerdala’s memory foam was brought to the US under the brand Tempur-Pedic.
Tempur-Pedic per se wasn’t an entity back in the days of memory foam development, but it now carries the legacy of original memory foam. During the past decades, the company has brought its memory foam technology to a new level and now claims to offer the best memory foam products out there.
Best Tempur-Pedic Pillows: The Buying Guide
What are the things you need to look for when choosing a Tempur-Pedic pillow? Well, basically the same things that you would look for in any other pillow, but there are some other things to consider as well.
If you don’t know where to start though, then let us give you an overview of what to pay attention to.
The variety of TEMPUR foam
The TEMPUR foam is the basis of any Tempur-Pedic pillow, but many variations of it are suitable for different kinds of people and sleepers. These variations are listed on Tempur-Pedic’s website.
TEMPUR-Breeze Cooling: Pillows with this variation of foam employ a gel filling to make TEMPUR more breathable.
SmartClimate System: Pillows with this feature employ a moisture-wicking pillowcase.
EasyRefresh: These Tempur-Pedic pillows come with “soft and durable top covers” that zip off and on for convenient washing and replacement.
TEMPUR-ES: This variation of TEMPUR is softer and likely a better choice for stomach and back sleepers. Conforming to your body better, TEMPUR-ES should allow you to keep your head lower.
TEMPUR-HD: This formulation conforms to the body shape more readily, allowing for “the most precise support.”
TEMPUR-Response: TEMPUR-Response pillows boast a springier feel that might be to some people’s liking.
The Firmness of the Pillow
While hard pillows can feel like a rock to some, they can be therapeutic to people with aches. On the other hand, a pillow that is too soft won’t be able to provide some people with the necessary support.
There is no best when it comes to the right firmness. Different firmness levels suit different kinds of people.
With that said, keep in mind that regular TEMPUR pillows are on the firmer side. Furthermore, Tempur-Pedic has some really firm pillows. While these will work very well for some people, they won’t be great for everybody.
Read user reviews to see how the desired Tempur-Pedic pillow has been for them. And if you are looking for a softer pillow, look for one that comes with a softer kind of TEMPUR foam.
The loft of the pillow
Are you a back sleeper? Side? Stomach? Whichever way you sleep, not all pillows will suit you. You will have to consider the height of the pillow in this case (referred to as the loft).
For side sleepers, a thicker pillow would be better since it would fill the space between the bed and the head. Back sleepers tend to prefer medium to high lofts, while stomach sleepers would probably feel most comfortable on a lower pillow.
Keep in mind that softer Tempur-Pedic pillows are going to work better with those people who tend to change their sleeping position often. A softer pillow will conform to your position and adjust its loft easier.
Cover Material
It is not only the inside that you should be vigilant about – but the cover is also important.
Tempur-Medic commonly uses cotton as cover material. Cotton is soft, breathable, easy to launder, and hypoallergenic. For most people, cotton will work just right.
Some Tempur-Medic pillows have polyester covers though. Polyester is inexpensive and durable, and it also dries relatively quickly after washing. However, polyester covers aren’t as comfy as cotton covers, and some people are also allergic to polyester.
Best Tempur-Pedic Pillow Reviews
Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Contour Breeze Side-To-Side Pillow.
The TEMPUR-Contour Breeze pillow may look weird, but it is its irregular shape that could make it perfect for some people.
The curved profile of the Contour Breeze pillow is made with head and neck comfort and relaxation in mind. This shape will probably work the best for back sleepers, but it could also be good for those who sleep on the side.
As for stomach sleepers, we aren’t really sure that the shape of this pillow would work for them.
Another important feature of this Tempur-Pedic pillow is the soft and breathable cotton cover. You also have a breathable gel-infused top whose breathability is where the word “Breeze” in the product name comes from.
And, of course, you have the TEMPUR foam whose benefits we’ve talked about earlier.
Keep in mind that the irregular shape of this pillow probably will not work for everybody. If in doubt, then maybe you should have a look at the other, more traditional Tempur-Pedic pillows below.
Many people have also complained about the firmness of this pillow. It’s no surprise that the TEMPUR foam is firm, but it seems that it’s firmer than in some other Tempur-Pedic products.
With this in mind, unless you want a very firm pillow, the Contour Breeze might not be the best option for you.
Pros
- Great for side and back sleepers.
- Very firm and supportive.
- Increased comfort for the head and neck.
- Breathable at the top.
Cons
- Pricey.
- Not everybody will like the pillow’s shape and firmness.
Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud Breeze Dual Cooling Pillow, King
The TEMPUR-Cloud Breeze pillow features many of the benefits of the Contour Breeze Pillow but in a more traditional pillow shape. This pillow will probably be a better option for most people.
Unlike the Contour Breeze, the TEMPUR-Cloud Breeze pillow has a gel-infused layer on both sides, so you can actually turn it upside down if necessary. In terms of cooling performance though, the two pillows should be similar since they use the same technology.
The TEMPUR-Cloud Breeze again comes with a soft cotton cover that is breathable and easy to wash.
When it comes to sleeping positions, Tempur-Pedic advertises that this pillow is suitable for either back, side, or stomach sleepers. We think that this pillow will be especially great for side sleepers thanks to its taller loft and firmness.
But it should be good for back and stomach sleepers as well though since it is designed to conform to the user.
In the end, if you are ready to pay the price for a supportive pillow, then this one may be the best option.
Pros
- Suitable for any sleeping position, but especially for side sleepers.
- Breathable.
- More traditional pillow shape.
Cons
- Pricey
Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud Soft Conforming Pillow
The key feature of the TEMPUR-Cloud Soft pillow, as you could have guessed, is its softer TEMPUR foam.
If you move around a lot in your sleep, then this pillow may be the best option. That’s because its softer TEMPUR material will conform to your position better. The TEMPUR-Cloud Soft pillow should thus be great for any sleeping position.
And, of course, you have the traditional pillow shape that will probably be the best for most people.
Unlike the previous Tempur-Pedic pillows, this pillow doesn’t have any breathable gel layers. If you are living in a warmer area, then this pillow may not be the best option.
Aside from that, keep in mind that the softer foam will deliver less support than the foam found in the previous two Tempur-Pedic pillows. But if you’ve had experience with foam pillows and have found them to be too firm, then the Cloud Soft pillow could be great for you.
No products found.
Pros
- Good for any sleeping position.
- Not too pricey.
- Boasts softer TEMPUR foam.
- Traditional pillow shape.
Cons
- Less support than in firmer Tempur-Pedic pillows.
Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-ProForm Embrace Luxury Pillow
If you like to hug your pillow while sleeping, then the huggable TEMPUR-ProForm Embrace pillow might be the right pillow for you.
Regular pillows can get pretty beaten after hugging, but this pillow’s huggable shape should make it last.
Aside from the shape, the ProForm Embrace pillow features softer TEMPUR foam. This pillow will somewhat lack support, but the softer foam should work great for any sleeping position. Besides, it would probably be more pleasant for you to hug a softer pillow.
The ProForm Embrace pillow isn’t too pricey as well.
Keep in mind that this pillow isn’t designed particularly breathable, so it isn’t the best option for warmer areas. Besides, not everybody will like its shape, so if you have been okay with your traditional pillow, then you might not need a differently shaped pillow.
Pros
- Not too pricey.
- Good for all positions.
- Softer TEMPUR foam.
- Huggable shape.
Cons
- Not the most supportive Tempur-Pedic pillow.
- Not everyone will like the pillow’s shape.
Tempur-Pedic Neck Pillow Firm Feel & Ergonomic Design
The Neck Pillow is similar to the TEMPUR-Contour Breeze pillow overviewed at the very beginning, but it has a more pronounced curve to it.
Tempur-Medic claims that the ergonomic shape of this pillow has been developed by doctors to promote proper spine alignment, ensure support, and allow the neck, shoulder, and back muscles to relax.
Well, judging by the positive reviews of this neck pillow, Tempur-Medic’s design is indeed working. With that said, keep in mind that the shape of this pillow will work best for back and maybe side sleepers, but not for stomach sleepers.
The Neck Pillow is made firm and supportive, but it seems not to be as overwhelmingly firm as the Contour Breeze pillow, which is probably a good thing. This pillow’s not too pricey either.
It should be noted that a noticeable number of buyers have complained about a chemical odor coming from this pillow. Not everybody has had issues with it, and the odor should go away after some time, but keep this in mind.
Besides, be mindful that the cover in this pillow is made from polyester. If you have polyester allergies, then the Contour Breeze pillow may be a better option.
Pros
- Not too pricey.
- Great for back sleepers.
- Supports the head and neck.
- Firm and supportive.
Cons
- Hard to find the right size.
- Smelly when new.
Final Words
Even though you can trust a brand and its products, not all products are the same, and not all will suit you. Luckily, Tempur-Pedic comes with a variety of pillows, one of which will surely suit you. All you have to do is understand their features and know what you need, which you hopefully do now.
